Walmart, not Target coming to Oshawa Kingsway Village
Oshawa - Most Canadians are aware that retail-chain Zellers will be seizing business in the near future. In fact, some stores across Canada are already closed, including Oshawa's Kingsway Plaza location.
Some consumers believe that Zellers store loactions will become US-retail giant Target, which is only somewhat true. Some locations across Canada will be home to new Walmart stores.
In January of 2011, Target publicly addressed that it was acquiring the majority of Zellers' 220 stores nationwide. Later in the year Target announced its first 105 locations, and by September of the same year they announced an additional 84 stores. Currently, Target plans to operate approximately 120-130 stores under the famed bullseye logo, and sell off the rights to the others, including 39 locations to Walmart Canada. One of the new Walmart stores is at Townline Rd. and King St. E in Oshawa at Kingsway Village plaza.
Other nearby Zellers locations that are planned to be Walmart are: Gerrard Square, Sheridan Mall, and Cedarbrae Mall in Toronto, and a location in South Peterborough.
At press time, it is rumoured that these locations will be open in late 2012.
